What are Intraoral Cameras?

Memorial City Smiles provides the latest technology to all of our patients, and one of our tools used during an exam is an intraoral camera. Intraoral cameras are a tool used in dentistry to examine a patient’s mouth. The instrument looks similar to a pen, and provides high-resolution images of a patient’s teeth and mouth. An intraoral camera is used in conjunction with a real-time monitor, and are similar to the hand mirrors you may have seen used before.

During your dental exam we can look inside your mouth and allow the patient to see a clear picture of what we are discussing. It helps the patient to get a visual picture of any concerns or issues we may be addressing during your visit.

What are the benefits of an Intraoral Camera?

Intraoral cameras have the ability to examine a patient’s mouth in extreme detail. The camera has magnifying capabilities to zoom in and help diagnose and treat more accurately. Pictures can be taken using this type of camera, and are used in your dental history to provide a good record of your dental health over time.

Intraoral cameras help our team to show patients what is happening in their mouth, and discuss any issues or treatment recommendations. Images are also printable and can be sent home with patients if they are requested.

Intraoral cameras help with insurance claims by providing visual proof of any dental condition. Digital or printed copies are easily available with this technology, and this helps both the patient, dentist, and provider.
