What is Sedation or Sleep Dentistry?
Sedation dentistry is used to help patients that may have anxiety of fear get through complicated procedures or surgery in our office. This helps the patient to relax during a procedure, and feel calm and pain free.
During IV sedation dentistry a small needle is placed into the patients arm. The patient falls asleep within minutes, and can relax during their dental surgery or procedure. Sedation dentistry is completely safe, and is very helpful to both the patient and dental team.
Who can benefit from Sleep Dentistry?
Sedation dentistry allows us to treat our patients efficiently while they are relaxed. This service can benefit patients that suffer from fear or anxiety when they enter our office. Sedation dentistry helps to take the edge off and keep patients calm.
Sedation dentistry can keep you comfortable and take away any pain or discomfort. It allows us to ensure the procedure moves along smoothly, and keeps patients from experiencing unnecessary pain.
If the procedure is a longer one, the patient can rest and relax calmly. Sedation dentistry can also help children or adults that may have an issue sitting still for an extended period of time.
This service also helps patients with mental or physical disabilities. If the patient is unable to cooperate during their dental surgery or treatment, they can benefit from sedation dentistry.
How does the process work for IV Sedation?
During your dental procedure or surgery, a thin needle is placed into the arm. This is connected to an IV tube that delivers the sedative directly to your bloodstream. We also use topical numbing cream to help with the needle, and to keep patients pain free. The sedative works quickly, and within minutes you are calmly sedated, and ready for the procedure.
After the procedure is complete, we give patients time to wake up and recover. A family member or friend is required to come with to your procedure to ensure you get home safely. Post-surgery instructions will be discussed to go over at home care.
