If you are looking for a permanent long lasting restorative solution for your teeth, then you may be a good candidate for dental implants. Patients that have broken, injured, or missing teeth can benefit from dental implants. Implants are built to last, look and feel natural, and give patients a smile they can be proud of.
During our implant evaluation process we look to see if the patient is in good general or oral health. We also look to see if the patient has adequate bone in their jaw. The patient must have enough bone present in their jaw to provide the needed support for the implant.
Implants are connected with gum tissue and the bone in our mouth, so having enough bone present is important. If the patient does not have enough bone present, bone grafts can be done. This process involves adding bone grafting material to the area in need. X-rays are taken during your exam to help identify areas of bone loss, and to help to create a customized treatment plan.
A thorough medical evaluation is also done during the evaluation process. A patient’s health history can affect how well the implant will heal and fuse to the jaw bone. If you suffer from diabetes, uncontrolled gum disease, or other medical conditions, you may still be a good candidate.
Patients that take certain medications that suppress their immune system may not be a good candidate for dental implants. All of these conditions will be evaluated during our process to help develop the best course of treatment that works for you.
Most patients are good candidates for dental implants, but there are rare cases where dental implants may not be the best solution. Patients that have low jawbone density from trauma, congenital conditions, or tooth loss may not be good candidates for implants.
